Wow where do I start with this wedding…I did not meet the couple until the wedding day and during our correspondence Lourese gave me an idea as to where the farm is. Basically just on the other side of Thabazimbi, no problem I thought…not quite. The farm is situated a couple of hundred kilometers from anything and after driving almost 5 hours from Johannesburg (which felt like an eternity) I reached the farm for Eon and Lourese’s Dwaalboom Bushveld Wedding. Smack bang in between nothing and nowhere to be exact.
But what a worthwhile drive it turned out to be. Needless to say I absolutely love the Bushveld and it takes me back to memories of growing up on farms with tractors, bakkies and all the other good stuff. There is just something about farms, the silence of the bush, the dust and all the smells and feeling.
Eon and Lourese are wonderful people to say the least and I don’t even have to mention what a beautiful bride Lourese was…simply stunning. Shortly after meeting the couple separately and spending some time with their family and friends I soon came to realise that Lourese never told me how they met, maybe deliberately so. Both Lourese and Eon were on the popular Afrikaans TV show called “Boer soek n Vrou” on DSTV Kyknet. Although being on two entirely different seasons of the series, Lourese caught Eon’s eye and through friends and the series they met and as they say the rest was history.
On to the wedding, what a day it was with Lourese driving up to the ceremony in a John Deere Tractor complete with John Deere custom boots. The whole ceremony was in between vast Sunflower fields, which on it’s own is a dream come true for most brides. After which we were fortunate enough to have a truly spectacular sunset in the middle of the bush followed by the reception in the farm shed complete with sheep spit-braai. This is probably one of my longest posts to date and definitely a wedding experience I will remember for a long time to come.
Bush, tractors, dust, sunflower fields…what more do you need. And I’m happy to say that this “Boer” found his “Vrou”, congratulations Eon and Lourese…you guys rock.
